Enter the Geeks
DragonCon weekend kicked off with last night’s arrival of the Florida crew. The evening didn’t exactly go well for us as nobody could have anticipated that the pre-registration sign-in line would take two fucking hours to get through. I figured we had our little post card, we’d wait in line for a few minutes and be done. Oh no. The line wrapped through one 12-row queue, out the ballroom doorway, around the entry way, up the escalator and into yet another six-row queue in the lobby. I could have died.
In the midst of all that, we hadn’t bothered to get dinner, rather optimistically hoping we could grab something at the hotel. Right. So by the time we got home with Bryan and Chasity it was almost 11 p.m. and we were all flat busted. Thank God for Bryan. He’s one of those people that can always, always make me laugh, no matter what’s going on.
So I’m lying on the bench press this morning wondering why on earth I was having such a hard time with the 40-pound set when I realized that not only did I only get 5 1/2 hours of sleep last night but I hadn’t had a thing to eat since lunchtime and that was just a hotdog.
I hit Chick-Fi-La like a mad woman on the way home and then tip-toed around the apartment trying not to make a racket so folks could keep sleeping. And now I’m sitting here wishing I’d taken the day off to spend with everyone at the Con. Feh. I have a lot to do today so it’s just as well I’m here, but damn.
I’m not sure what’s on tap for this evening yet. We’ll probably try to meet everyone for dinner somewhere. Who knows. The geeks were out in full force already last night so the weekend promises to be eye popping. I’ve heard whispers about a photo scavenger hunt so there may be some good pictures to post soon.
Cheers!
