Busy Busy
It’s been kinda nutty lately and there’s no end in sight with company on the horizon. I guess Rino and Steve get here tomorrow night, and of course, Survivor begins (more on that in a moment).
After dodging the battery bullet with Tanya’s warranty, we found out yesterday that she needs a complete front brake job and a rear adjustment. Brakes aren’t covered under warranty so there you go. Whatever.
It’s looking like I won’t have to hate Wednesday’s soon. The new hire who is taking over the newsletter responsibilities is sharp as a whip and smarter than anybody in this building I think. Which could mean he’ll be smart enough to leave but probably not until he’s put in at least a year’s time (cuz you know, he’s smart). He’s almost completely trained to assume the responsibility. Next week I should be strictly supervisory. Whoohoo!
I’m a little sad to see it go into other hands but I’m thrilled with how competent those hands seem to be. The newsletter has been the biggest success of our revamped Web presence, and I’ve been involved with it from the start, so I feel a little proprietary. I also know that as a result of its success it can survive and improve with a fresh perspective and that I’ll now be free to tackle some of the lingering (festering) challenges that remain in the ongoing Web project.
I’ve discovered a knack for problem solving and project development and I really think my strengths are in getting things out of limbo and into action. Long-term maintenance and support of existing products is important and noble but I’m easily bored and am happier and much more driven when given a challenge with a start and a goal.
Survivor
So far it sounds like this is going to be Survivor: Naked People. I’m keen to see how Ryan S., Survivors’ first true Geek, handles the deprivation and the social element. Talk about being a fish out of water. I don’t think they get cable or high-speed Internet access on the island.
And Lilian looks to be an absolute riot–with her scout uniform and all! I hope she lasts longer than Maralyn “looks like she is but isn’t” Mad Dog Hershey from Outback.
Other than that I have no real feel for these other contestants. On paper they all seem pretty generic, with those two exceptions. Rupert “Hagrid” Boneham scares me a little bit but I’m reserving judgement.
Gym Report
The scale tells me that I’ve lost 15.5 pounds since June 1. I’m not really sure what to do with that because I don’t feel especially different and there’s been no drastic change in my physical appearance that I am able to see but hey, I’ll take it.
We’re talking about mixing up our weight workouts because we’re both starting to get bored with the lower-body stuff. I think we’re going to start doing combined lower/upper days instead of the alternating legs, arms.
I’ve also incorporated the tread mill into my weekly cardio and continue to be surprised at how not awful the running is. I’m not loving it or anything but it doesn’t suck either.
Apart from all that, I joined the OFB Challenge and haven’t made it up a single hill yet this week but there’s still time!
