The Great Disconnect
I had to kinda step away from the Internet last week. I think I was suffering from Convention over-stim and also, I got sick. Four days of little sleep and being surrounded by 30,000+ strangers and their germs. Ugh. I’m still not 100% but I am back at work (I was out Thursday and Friday). Mostly I just feel like it’s not possible to get enough sleep or drink enough water.
Survivor
I have skimmed the bios and I’ve got this week’s TV Guide in front of my courtesy of Sarah, but I haven’t had a chance to read it or to form any opinions other than, eh? So far this cast sounds boring as hell. I can only hope that the challenges and the environment are more interesting. I’ll make it a point to spend some more time pondering the cast and get back to you with deeper impressions sometime this week. I believe the premier is the 18th.
DragonCon Days 3&4
We have mixed feelings about the second half of our weekend with the freaks. Some real highs and some unfortunate (and I believe avoidable) lows. Crowd control was the pits because the turnout was larger than expected. We were also unable to get in to see a lot of stuff we wanted to, despite waiting in lines for several hours.
What we did see was awesome though. James Marsters was so great. I can’t say enough how much I enjoyed him. And Anne McCaffrey was a spitfire, making me want to run out and reacquaint myself with Pern.
I hate to say it but it’s time for most of the cast of the original Trek series to quit coming to conventions. They’re obviously only there for the money, they take pot shots at attendees and are generally sarcastic about the entire thing. They are also entirely out of touch with their fan base. Let’s move on.
Gym Report
I made it to the gym six days a week for the entire month of August. Did not miss nary a day. I’m stupidly pleased with myself. And during the convention and all the out of town company I managed to stick to my schedule and worked out all weekend. Then I got sick and I missed Thursday and Friday. I did go Saturday and Sunday to try to make up for some of it but whatever, sick is sick.
Despite my satisfaction about August’s attendance record, I feel as if I’m slacking in the energy and effort departments. The last few weeks have seen dull workouts and not much “umph” on my part. I’m going to correct that. I plan to start by increasing the length of my cardio sessions and trying to go back to doing intervals. I’m also going to mix it up and alternate between the elliptical and the treadmill. I had a great run on the treadmill Saturday entirely by accident and it really surprised me, so I’m going to work it into the rotation.
I think I’m also going to sign up for Operation OFB when it starts on the 15th.
Food intake needs to also be hauled back into control so I planned meals and did a big grocery run for the week. I’ve lost a grand total of 10 pounds and a pants size since this all began but there’s more that can be done to help that along and I’m getting rather complacent. Time to stir the pot.
There should be more chit-chat here this week. Keep checking in!
