Oklahoma is O.K.

Having a terrific and relaxing visit in Tulsa with Tanya’s family. Don’t have pictures yet because my camera battery crapped out after about 10 minutes Friday afternoon. I’ll have to wait for various relatives to mail me some. I do have my PDA and may be able to get a few pictures here at Mom’s house but frankly, all we do is sit on the couch, watch Oprah and read–which is all I want to do but really, it’s not much to look at. I think I stayed in my pajamas yesterday until around 1 p.m.

The lake was fun as usual. There were about 20 people on this boat, including three cute kids. I always enjoy Tanya’s family, almost as much as I enjoy my own. Wish we could force everybody to move to one location. I made wistful suggestions that she and I buy an RV so that we can just travel and have picnics and parties everywhere we stop. I’d buy a boat but I know niether of us would ever want to pilot it. There were even RV hookups on the lake. I’m not sure Tanya was all that into the idea. Something about the idea of me driving an RV that terrified her as much as me driving a boat. Oh well.

I’ve already devoured two good books this week. The first was Neil Gaiman’s Neverwhere. I’ve kinda shied away from Gaiman over the years because he’s one of those authors with a rather obsessive cult fan base. However, I enjoyed the book and will likely move on to some of his other stories.

Ender’s Game, by Orson Scott Card, is something I should have read years ago and never managed to pickup. I was completely engrossed in the story until the end and then…well, I can’t say it was a bad ending exactly, just a bit dull and too open ended, even for a book that serves as the beginning for a series of other stories. I don’t know. It was like watching an intensly engrossing sci-fi film and coming to the end and going, “huh?”

I’ve got one more to tackle before we leave town. I’ll let you know how that is. Because talking about books is a lot more interesting than talking about packing or Oprah.
