Christopher Reeve and a Television Entry
I was planning to blog about the new season of television this morning, and I’m still going to, but after hearing the news about Christopher Reeve I felt compelled to begin with a nod to him.
Like so many kids, I grew up with a movie industry dominated by the action hero. Over the years I alternately glorified Flash Gordon, Han Solo, Indiana Jones or Superman, depending on the time of year and which sequel was out. Superman was my ultimate favorite–maybe because his alter ego was a loveable doof, or perhaps I had a bigger crush on Lois Lane than Princess Leia. Who knows. At the very least, it was Superman posters that dominated my walls for the longest time.
His work in the movie industry and his political presence since the paralysis, while at times maudlin and depressing, has consistently been solid and inspiring. His death is a loss. And no matter how corny it sounds, he’ll always be the face and pecs of Superman for me.
