From Nothing to Something

I got another job today. Let me rephrase that. Today I got a job I really want. As in one that is in my field and pays what I’m used to earning and feels like a career and not a waiting room. I interviewed at 8:30 and they called before I even made it home.

There are strings. I was hired on a contract basis for a maximum of 35-hours/wk. The contract is initially for a two-week trial period. Assuming the trial goes well the contract will be extended indefinitely. A salaried position may eventually be possible but I have no idea when.

So, it’s a job, doing what I want to do with people I think I’m going to love working with and a company that continues to knock my socks off with each new piece of information I learn. But it is not a guarantee and it will not involve insurance or 401K etc.

I start today at 3, when I’ll be listening in on a conference call relevant to the work I’ll be doing.

Do you hear me trying to temper my excitement with reality here? I am hella excited but I am desperately trying to be rational and not count my chickens.

As some of you know, I love chickens. The very idea of them amuses me. And I love counting them. Hatch little chickens! Hatch!

I intend to move forward with my retail gig tonight and hope to juggle both. I am also not turning away any freelance projects I’ve accepted. So essentially I’ve gone from having nothing at all whatsoever to do to having a shit pile of work. Funny how that happens.

I will now have to remember how to be organized and impressive.
