Nope, It was the Cricket

I guess August is a special month for crickets. This is the second August I’ve lived in this apartment and have experienced the phenomenon that is cricket mating season. And for some reason, one particular cricket (I’m going to assume it’s the same one as last year–it sounds like him) likes to post himself beneath my bedroom window and sing his song all night long. I presume he’s workin’ his mojo, trying to attract some booty.
If so, he must be the most unsuccessful flirt in the cricket kingdom because you’d think if he was getting any he’d shut the hell up for at least a few minutes periodically. As it is, he chirps his chirp all night long in a ragged, sporadic cadence that is just too off beat to serve as white noise for me. As such, he makes it awfully hard for me to fall asleep.
August is going to be a ridiculously busy month. It’s already off to a bang-up start and there is no end in sight. I’ll be getting my cavities filled, getting new glasses, moving for the 9th time in 11 years, attending yet another DragonCon with the St. Pete Geeks (not all of whom are from St. Pete anymore), delivering the final round of Tanya’s belongings to Katie and Nicole’s place, giving a presentation on Information Architecture to my entire studio here at work on the 22nd, and celebrating lots of birthdays and anniversaries. None of it is really worrying me, but all of it is distracting.
Early this morning the cricket started chirping and I rolled over and hit the snooze button. It’s going to be a long month.

Doesn’t Christina know how to catch or stop a cricket from chirping???????Where are your science friends when you need them????Of coourse you could always just run a fan , like the rest of your family!

If the cricket is the kind of cricket who never gets laid there’s a good chance he’ll also be at Dragon*Con.
I wouldn’t expect much help from Christina on modifying cricket behavior. She’s currently having trouble getting to Otis to eat, and eating is 8 of Otis’ top 10 favorite things to do. (The other two are sleeping and waking up from sleeping to eat.)

Hahaha! God, I didn’t even think about that. The cricket is probably planning on hitching a ride in my truck, too.
I did turn the fan up last night, which blew the curtains all to hell but pretty much drowned out Mr. Cricket. I don’t know why I didn’t think of that in the first place, but like I said, I’m fairly distracted lately.

We have a lizard that lives in our mailbox. I think it’s his swinging bachelor pad, because he’s always poking out his head, cruising for babes.
His name is Leroy.
