Killer Hook

Gwen Stefani got jacked for the best pop hook of 2005 this month by Natasha Bedingfield, who’s These Words has got to be just about the catchiest thing playing on commercial radio these days. It is not physically possible to sit still while that song is on. At least not for me, and I don’t really dance, so I guess I kinda start doing some pathetic white-girl neck movements when this is on. JMo could tell you.

I seriously thought Holla Back Girl was going to take it but even “the shit is bananas,” which will teach a generation of children how to spell the name of that fruit, can’t compete. And for those of you who long ago turned your radio dials to NPR and therefore are reading this entry and going, “huh?”

“That’s all I’ve got to say
can’t think of a better way
yeah that’s all I’ve got to say,
I love you, is that okay?”

“Read some Byron, Shelley and Keats
Recited it over a hip-hop beat,
I’m having trouble saying what I mean
with dead poets and a drum machine.”

    Pure brilliance.
