Half-way Point
By AmyMo on Aug 17, 2005 in Life
Having arrived at the half-way point of insanity month I thought I’d just do a quick update so y’all don’t think I’ve fallen in a hole.
Work is slammed right now, so my days are jam-packed. They’ve also apparently decided to shuffle me to a new desk on the second floor tomorrow today, so I guess I’m moving home and desk this month. Today I’m attending a brown-bag lunch series on using the Outlook Calendar, which may or may not tell me something I don’t know but I’m so glad to be working for a company that actually values training that I was probably the first person to sign up.
I’ve packed a few things. Not nearly enough things. Official moving day is the 27th.
My birthday was a lot of fun. A combination of after work happy hour with folks from the office plus dinner and drinks with Jen, Chris and Jamie at Cap City Diner on Friday night, followed by an evening out with some of Jen’s work friends on Saturday.
I’ll get slammed for doing this if any of them are up to using Google, but the band we heard Saturday night was butt-ass awful. Sonic Tribe, people. Be very wary. The lead singer was off all night and couldn’t decide if he was Fred Durst or Kid Rock–ugh. A garage band that could have stayed in the garage. Preferably with the door shut.
I got some cool gifts, including but not limited to Target gift cards for the new apartment, Amazon gifts to indulge my need to buy books, (which SOME people think is a waste of money) a bicycle helmet (thanks Mom!), a very cool 1990s CD and trivia collection that I am thoroughly enjoying, AND admission to DragonCon. Not to mention phone calls, cards (both electronic and paper) and the company of very nice people.
I went shopping on Saturday and spent money I don’t have on a few new shirts because if I have to wear a polo one more day this month I might die. While shopping I managed to allow a little blonde sales girl at the Bigelow skin care shop to work on my vanity something fierce and sell me an overnight cream and some eye treatment.
She wasn’t even cute and she had on so much makeup you could have scraped it off with a putty knife. She just smiled up at me and asked what I’m using for the dark circles under my eyes. ON MY BIRTHDAY! Apparently I am now using Pure Simplicity overnight cream and eye treatment. At least until I get bored with that.

Next time tell her that you’re on a strict regimen that requires the blood of skin care specialists.

I buy lotions and potions and then I forget that I have them. I’ve been informed that women of my age (39) can’t afford to go without a major moisturizing regimen. Anything that includes the word “regimen” makes me want to flee. I guess I’ll just have wrinkles.

Yeah, no more polos!!!
The band was awful but according to drunk girl in the parking lot quote “Remember there name, they will be famous one day”
I got pees on my head but don’t call me a pee head
I’m out…..

Oh my, eye care regimen—-how amusing for some reason. I liked Christopher’s response. I am never that witty in a moment of need.Work sounds crazy.Good luck with both the moves!

apparently my memory is a total piece of you-know-what, since i thought your birthday had yet to occur. duh. must fix calendar. CLEARLY i have spent far too many years concentrating on the other august birthday in my life — that of my husband — what was i thinking??
and i would truly like to know who it is that thinks books are a waste of money. you can never have too many books — just not enough shelf space (or library space, or house space…)

My gyrlfriend thinks most books are a waste of money, unless they are used. She has a point about the used part but sometimes it’s just fun to browse at borders and you know if you walk in the door at all, you are not coming out empty handed. (at least i’m not). Yay for Amazon used books, i just bought 5 books w/shipping for under $20, even my gyrl can’t disagree with that.

I never said books were a waste of money, thank you very much. I said buying new books is a waste of money. That’s what libraries and used book stores are for.
