The Amazing Race: Give Us This Day Our Daily Hypocrisy

Previously on, The Amazing Race…

Skunk-haired female Weaver:

“We’re all Christians, we don’t care if the other teams like us, we aren’t going to stoop to their level.”

A few minutes later…

“Dear God, please help us find our way to the clue and help us beat the other teams–if that’s your will, amen.”

Still later, after getting yielded by the Paolos, who are actually starting to act a little less psycho:

“We answer to a higher power. It’s okay if they want to be like this. Oh look! They’re standing in front of a garbage truck! Hahahaha. He looks like a squirrel, hahahaha!”

And they commence making fun of all the photographs of the other teams in the yield bin. They also commence pouting and acting completely baffled and insulted that anyone would yield God’s own chosen team.

I dislike the Weavers. Immensely.

Favorite line of the night was from the Paolo boy (who really does resemble a squirrel, even if that wasn’t a very Christian thing of the skunk-haired Weaver to say about him) who’s response to his mother’s plaintive, “I’m coming, I’m coming!” as she ran her middle-aged legs off was, “yeah, so’s Christmas.”

And everyone knows that Christmas NEVER gets here.

Cheers, Gaghans. I almost got weepy watching little Clarissa’s lip quiver while she tried not to cry on the mat. You guys are unnaturally kind and good and well adjusted. That makes you a little creepy, but I was still sorry to see you go.

  1. I can’t stand the Florida team (Weavers) I wish they wouldn’t have gotten out of that mud when their car was stuck. I guess that was God’s will though.

    They suck

  2. Until last night, I didn’t know why the other teams hated the Florida team so much. Apparently, it’s because they’re brash and ugly (inside).

I’m so sad about the Gaghans, even though I figured it was coming. I wish every family was that functional.

And now? I think I’m sort of rooting for the Paolos. I know. But if not them, who? And they are getting it together.

  3. Yeah, they’re pretty much awful. I was really hoping the Gaghans could get ahead of them somehow. And you know that woman feels horrible that it took her so long to find that red bean.

  4. You have to root for the Paolos if only for Dad. He is so incredibly sincere in his love and enthusiasm for America and opportunities and hard work and his family and the competition and everything else. Watching him haul those bananas made me want him to win.

  5. yes the man can haul bananas but….that mother and son drive me batty! I am very sad about the Gaghans,I cried . I guess I’m rooting for the Dad with the three daughters–duh.

  6. Yeah, but the daughters are kind of dumb. (The ones on TV, obviously, not yours. Heh.)

Mom and DJ Paolo drive me batty, too, but I think they might actually be learning something from the experience, which is great, if true. He seems to have actually gained some respect for both his parents. I would also point out, to his credit, that DJ was the only player to notice the Kevin and Drew cameo in the first episode.

And sorry, but team Cinncinati is way too into jokes about (a) passing gas or (b) putting down their sister. And don’t get me started on the screaming GodLOUDski sisters.

  7. I’ll just chime into the general chorus about the God family. If they’re going to heaven, I hope they don’t get a parking spot near me.

Yes, initially I was offended by the way the oldest Paolo boy talks to his mother, but he has this sort of sweet quality that’s coming out more. I hope it’s genuine, or he’s seriously going to need professional help.

  8. I just take some comfort in the thought that no woman who has watched this show will enter into a dating relationship with that man lightly. He may be single for a long time..

And I agree that the GodLoudski sisters are pretty annoying, but I’ll celebrate their victory any day over the Weavers. Any. Day.

  9. Dear producers of the Amazing Race: Never, ever, ever, ever, do a family edition again.

    Thank you.

  10. How would this be for for “All Star” line up of teams you love to hate?
The Weaver Family - Amazing Race 8
The Paolo Family - Amazing Race 8
Ron and Kelly - Amazing Race 7
Adam and Rebecca - Amazing Race 6
Jonathan and Victoria - Amazing Race 6
Charla and Myrna - Amazing Race 5
and Team Guido from Amazing Race 1
You know, I now that I think about it that might be just too bad for even me to watch! Scratch that idea.

  12. You people are terrible terrible people. What did the Weavers ever do to anyone in the race? All they did is keep to themselves and entertain themselves. Who wouldn’t with all the other jerks in the race. I’m not saying that they don’t have issues but, gosh look at what they went through. The other people on the amazing race are the evil, troubled and intensely unlikeable. I hate everyone else that was in this race. I think the Weavers did amazing!!! Look at what all the other loser teams did to them and they still went further then alot of other teams. They came in 3rd!! After the horrible New Yorkers decided to yield them for no reason not to benefit themselves not because the Weavers were the next team behind them because they just didn’t like them. Same goes for the Linzs. They are all every single one of the teams besides the Weavers PITIFUL people. GROW UP!
