Yo

I’m not so much with the updating lately, huh?
B-Fest was a blast. I had more fun than last year, in part because of the presence of Chris and Lodore and in part because my life is in a much better place than it was in January of 05.
Cobra Women was probably my favorite, though Creature from the Black Lagoon complete with 3D Glasses was right up there. I have pictures posted over at Flickr.
Chicago is now on my list of weirdly romantic-feeling cities in which I could wander for hours but never, ever live.
And as always, the whole thing about B-Fest was getting to see and visit with some fabulous people that I don’t get to see near enough of. And in some cases, people I can only enjoy for the 24-hours required to endure this event.
Television revisited:
Survivor started last night. I have to admit that I like the four teams idea and I think we’re going to see some social politics like we haven’t gotten for a while. The exile island thing isn’t doing anything for me yet but we’ll see where that goes.
My favorite contestant so far? The nutcase who thought this would be a good time to give up a 3-pack a day nicotine habit. HAHAHAHAHA! Moron.
Switching gears:
Last week’s LWord was simultaneously good and infuriating. Good because Dana Delany guest starred and made out with Bette. I am enough of a pig to say that this was probably the highlight of the television year for me so far.
Infuriating because they’ve introduced a new character who is the utter opposite of all the main cast–she’s from the midwest, she’s really butch, she works in computers (vaguely), has no money, etc. And now she’s also apparently gender disphoric.
I didn’t really give a crap about her one way or the other, to be honest. She’s with Jenny, who is easily my least favorite character on the show. However, Sunday night’s twist into discussions about “the change” annoyed me. A slightly different representation of lesbians by way of a midwestern butch was probably good enough here folks. Dragging her through a gender identity struggle seems like overkill.
Which is not to say that the topic couldn’t be addressed, I’m just thinking they could have waited a season and given that to another character. I mean really, look at it this way, they now have one butch dyke on a show full of glamorous, rich femmes and now she thinks she might be happier as a man. Then again, asking for a balance of stereotypes on a show like this seems absurd and ironic.
Weekend Shopping
I’m going shopping for a Washer/Dryer combo this weekend. Cross your fingers that I can find one that won’t completely kill my annual bonus.
I also had a dream the other night that a co-worker informed me our CEO hates my belt and that I’d better buy a new one. Oddly, I think I will.
Coming up: Amy gets new glasses. Photos to follow when available.

Survivor started last night? Dammit, why doesn’t anyone tell me these things?

Not terribly exciting shopping, but Macy’s might be involved.

never noticed your belt-sorry, good luck with the washer dryer!

One word: Maytag. Yes, it will decimate the bonus. It is good. It will last forever. Wish I could give you the one from 1205.

Ha! I ended up with a Whirlpool. I think I got a good deal and it is a name brand so, fingers crossed. What kills me is that the new glasses cost more than that washer/dryer.

And also, Holly! I was thinking about the subject of purchases that indicate being a grownup. I still don’t have a cover for my dining room table but something about owning a major appliance seemed fairly “rite of passage-ish.”

Ah, but TABLE PADS, that’s the gold standard of being grown-up — You’ll notice that I got rid of them, the table, and many other things almost immediatly thereafter. Grown-up isn’t all it is cracked up to be…but, a washer and dryer in one’s very own home is one of the greatest luxuries of modern life in my book. Congratulations on the purchase.
