Death By Smooth Jazz
By AmyMo on Feb 6, 2006 in Life
Before I went to dinner at Wolfgang Puck Express last night I wandered around the neighboring Half-Priced Books, ostensibly looking for a book my mother wants me to read, but really just wanting to be in a bookstore. I’m one of those weird people who finds bookstores incredibly comfortable places to just BE in. I don’t need to have a clue what I might want to buy, I will happily browse for ages.
Anyway, my browsing last night was cut short by what I can only assume was a cruel joke by the staff–who were probably all hoping to get to go home early as a result.
The piped in music? A “smooth jazz” rendering of the entire Thriller album. Three songs in and I simply couldn’t take it any longer. My brain hurts just remembering it. I mean really. The sax on Beat It alone was enough to bring a strong man to his knees.
Before I fled I did pickup a copy of Jonathan Strange and Mr. Norrel. Anyone tackled this yet? It got really good press and I’m already pretty intrigued by the first 20 or so pages.
Look at me all being a blogger this week. Let’s see how long this spurt lasts.
Also, for the less observant among you, photographic evidence of my new glasses resides over there in the Flickr box to the right. In case my big lurking head didn’t already tip you off.

Yeah, good luck with Strange and Norrel. I love that sort of thing, but I made it about halfway through. Twice. (Once with the audio, once with the hard copy.) That shit is DENSE.

Perhaps all they wanted was to rock with you. Instead, you chose to beat it.
The moral of this story: Don’t stop ’til you get enough.
P. S.
Do you remember the time when muzak was played only in the dentist’s office?

Oh yeah, the glasses look sharp. You’re a regular PYT.
Sorry.

Jazz or not, I miss Half-Price Books!
And the new glasses look great.

Half-Price books may be the best store ever. Except Target. And this one over by me in Grandview is HUGE! If I can just get them to stop with the Beat It lite.
