Bullets for April

  • I spent three wonderful days on the beach. It was nowhere near long enough. Not even close.
  • I joined a new gym.
  • I signed up for the 401k plan at work.
  • I am traveling by plane to a client site later this month. Business travel!
  • I am traveling by car to St. Louis with a pregnant woman to attend Emily’s Pagan/Quaker, barefoot, handfasting fiesta at the end of this month. Reception meal includes chicken n’ dumplings and chex mix. Holla!
  • I watched three movies this weekend: Hotel Rwanda, Crash and Jarhead. All very good in their own right and I am SO glad Crash won Best Picture instead of Brokeback Mountain.
  • The warmer weather and the longer days have worked wonders on my mood and my productivity. I seriously think bears have got it right with hibernation.

  1. Wow, you’ve gotten a lot done already this month! I am so looking forward to hearing all about the Quaker/pagan bash.

  2. Rather intense movies to see all in a row. I have to alternate intense with comedy.

    Which movie was your favorite?

  3. I’d have to say Hotel Rwanda. That movie just left me with so much admiration and awe for that man and his story. Living through all of that hell and all of that carnage, saving the lives of 1200+ people, and at no time raising a hand in violence to a living soul–even when the audience would have gladly cheered him on.

And they make that point so casually–so non-anvilish, that you hardly even realize it until your own anger at the situation makes you WISH someone would grab a gun and fight back. It was just powerful.

Crash was just superb story-telling but as my father said, it offers no commentary, no recommendations, no solutions. Just makes a statement and tells a good series of interwoven stories around a theme. And adds to the dialoge in a way was seldom get.

And this is now an entirely new blog entry. Ha.

Jarhead was just okay. I’ve seen a lot of war movies, and while it was enjoyable, I’m not convinced it added anything new to the conversation (unlike Crash, above).
