For Real, Yo

Last week was a steaming pile of crap.
I woke up on New Years Day with the start of a nasty cold that persisted all week and in the midst of it, endured what has to be the worst re-entry into the working year I think I’ve ever had. And most of what was bad about it was completely arbitrary, unpredictable, frequently unexpected and more-or-less out of my control. At least five people said to me, on separate occasions, “I don’t know whether to burst into tears or go drink,” so it wasn’t just me and it wasn’t just because I was feeling bad.
And I do try to qualify weeks like that. I have conversations in my head:
Typical:
Self: Is this week difficult because my head is up my butt or is this week really just plain rough?
Self: You have PMS, shut the hell up.
This week:
Self: Holy Shit! This week sucked! WTF!
Self: For real, YO!
Outside of work there were a few bright spots, including Wednesday night’s trip to see the Chihuly exhibit at Franklin Park and dinner with a friend, and Friday night’s completely spontaneous trip to Byrnes with Tommy and BaconJ.
There were also some not so shining moments, including failing to return a variety of phone calls and e-mails from folks who felt subsequently unloved and choosing to pick a fight with someone (not typical for me) in a completely assy way and at a particularly bad time. I can be a real joy.
So 2007 has gotten off to a really strange start. In fact, so far I would have to describe this year as “keyed up”. Lots has already happened, lots more is expected to happen and at the moment it all feels really front-loaded. I think by June I’m going to be ready to sing Auld Lang Syne again.
Next up: HRC fundraiser party for the L-Word season premier tonight at Q-Bar and of course, tomorrow night’s national championship game! We’re planning to watch at Tommy’s place in Lewis Center and the powers that be have declared Tuesday a “late start” day at the office so nobody has to be there until 10.
Go BUCKS!

f*ck last week. it sucked. period.
