I just got back into Columbus after a business trip to Minneapolis. I generally enjoy traveling for work. I like being included in the process and getting face-time with clients. It’s been one of the weird highlights of the last year for me, actually.

But yesterday, after a long day of meetings, our flight home got re-routed to Indianapolis because of poor weather conditions. After they unloaded us all at 11 p.m. we were told that buses had been chartered to DRIVE us the rest of the way (roughly 3.5 hours). Thankfully, our group recognized the pain and insanity of that option and chose to crash at a hotel and booked new flights out today.

We still didn’t get a lot of sleep and our new flights took us from Indy to Charlotte and then to Columbus, but really, when I think about that bus ride, there just couldn’t have been a better choice. OMG.

So I’m sleepy and kinda funky, and I really just want to go crash on the couch. But we’re all home safe and nobody got too crabby.

Winter travel has its perils, but I refuse to be grounded by it. I made a completely spontaneous drive to Canton last weekend to see Stacey, Scott and the girls. It was terrifically cathartic but there was a ridiculous snow storm and I had to shovel my car out of their driveway. Probably not the smartest weekend for a road trip but I just couldn’t sit home.

I don’t think I’ll have that problem this weekend. I intend to spend a good deal of time with the remote and the cats (assuming they still tolerate me). You could show up with a beer or some pizza though.
