Seattle

Day 2: Wash, Then Dance

Friday morning dawned early for the guest from the East Coast and Anita graciously prepared coffee in the old-school percolator (sans fish) and even warmed cream in a sauce pan on the stove. Spoiled I was for days in Seattle.

Work was destined to interfere with Anita’s fun so as she peddled her way to the university, I walked to Icon Coffee with Sam and had a croissant and a breve before heading out to Sea Tac to pick up Trips (name changed to protect the innocent).

After spending nearly half an hour trying to find parking in the hive of doom we located our friend and headed back to visit central for a scenic stroll through Freemont and a tour of the restrooms at Sam’s office.

Seattle is hilly. I didn’t know this going in. In fact, I knew almost nothing about the city apart from photographs and television shows and really didn’t have a fully formed picture of it in my head. The walk to and from Freemont was peppered with Trips and I stumbling over uneven pavement, falling over our own feet and generally being clumsy and having to pee a lot.

We wandered around the river and beneath the Freemont bridge, looking at house boats and floating houses (not the same thing!) and taking pictures and laughing. We drank more coffee and browsed in some shops and had a very nice lunch at the Triangle restaurant and bar.

After we hiked up a 90 degree incline back to the house, Sam and Trips returned to Sea Tac in the afternoon to pick up Trips’ other half, Glides, and I lounged around Visit Central and took advantage of some quiet time before the entire assemblage converged on neighbor Jenn’s house for dinner.

Neighbor dinner was awesome. Sam and her friends have been doing these for a while now and it was so cool to get to experience one in person. Jenn is a great sport for hosting it and the food was awesome. She did a seafood theme and the meal included tuna tartar, salmon, shrimp skewers, assorted cheeses and a pureed soup, not to mention the corn pudding, and then Anita baked a gorgeous apple pie for dessert and we all got fuzzy headed and full.

At neighbor dinner we met Kells and Jill (Jenn’s girlfriend) and I got some of my favorite photos of the weekend, most of them in their bathroom, including the Wash, Then Dance sign above the sink.

Bedtime came pretty early for the East Coast guests and Saturday was going to be the fullest day yet so everybody needed their beauty sleep or something. Sam and Anita graciously gave up their room to Trips and Glides and as we were heading back into the house Anita asked if they’d like for her to go in and “turn on the bed” for them. I guess they have some sort of heated futon situation. I almost pouted until I went into my own room and found the mints on my pillow. :)

Next up, Day 3: Death March
