On Moving
By AmyMo on Aug 27, 2007 in Life
So the movers come on Wednesday.
For the last week or two and for the next several days my life is upside down and crazy–a necessary chaos, but no chaos is ever comfortable for me.
This past weekend was the big packing push–that point where you realize it’s now or never and if you pack something you need, well then, you’d best live without it for a few days.
I’ve done this a lot. I should be really good at it. I’m not. Not really. It gets done and because I’m perpetually early for everything it always gets done on time. But it never feels smooth. Never feels like there weren’t 20 things I should have done differently.
While I packed on Saturday and Sunday I re-watched the Lord of the Rings in the background. It was actually an ideal choice, although it did prompt me to announce that walking into our new basement is like entering the Mines of Moria–a comment Ellen didn’t get but her Mother apparently found amusing and apt.
I have also been obsessing over the fact I’ve never lived in a two-story house. This morning, as I was mentally going over my week, I was thinking the following:
Wednesday is our first night in the house!
Okay, I have to get up early on Thursday to meet the cable guy…
Thursday will be my first morning waking up in the new house!
Gosh, it’s a two-story house…
The coffee is going to be really far away.
When I relayed that ridiculous stream of insanity to Ellen she said, “We could get a little coffee maker for the master bathroom.” Not, “You’re a moron,” or even, “You’re a lovable doof.” No, she looks for solutions.
Despite the insanity of the move I am insanely excited about the prospect of having five days off of work–IN A ROW! As in concurrent. All at once. One right after another.
OMG.
More to come, as well as pictures at Flickr soon.

congrats, amy! glad you were able to pack early.
oh, and get a coffee maker with a timer and set it up so that when you do finally complete the long, long march it will be ready to drink.

Or get a coffee maker with a timer and put it in the master bathroom. I think Ellen’s right on that.

Why put the coffee maker all the way in the bathroom? Why not on your nightstand?
