Shadow Friends
By AmyMo on Nov 19, 2007 in Life
This is the week of BaconJ’s departure.
On Friday afternoon she will board a plane for England where she will finally begin the next step of her journey.
In early 2006 Julie walked into my work life during what would turn out to be a defining year for several of us, both professionally and personally. And she became the magnetic center of a a small universe that grew of Tommy, Jeff and Me and later Ellen and KB. Six people, two intense and life changing years.
The last six months or so we’ve started evolving and expanding and breaking apart. Ellen and I paired off and turned into ElMo. Tommy drifted away. Jeff left the company and will now be moving out of state himself to take a chance on a promising opportunity in LA, and KB is making new and life changing choices right here in C-Bus after a pretty awful year of her own. We are taking paths.
You remember the scene in Stand By Me when the kids all arrive back in town at the end of the movie and head off to their separate homes, effectively going in different directions? That’s us right now.
And it’s not so much sad as it is bittersweet. Because who would I be without these people? And who will I be if we don’t all continue to grow and change?
I have loved you all uniquely and occasionally imperfectly and I will continue to love you even as we scatter.
Bright futures for everyone.
Endings are just new beginnings.

…sniff…sniff…sigh…

Seriously…Stand By Me is one of my all time fave movies. But you really did hit the nail on the head. Bittersweet…
