Packing Fiber

I got my test results back from the doctor and once again my cholesterol is high.

When I turned 30 I did all these tests and that was the first time I got word about such a thing. That revelation spurred my two-year gym and health obsession that was frequently documented in this blog at the time.

The layoff and move of 2004 brought all of that to a pitiful halt and I’ve found it difficult to find any momentum in that department since then.

Subsequently, I’ve gained half the weight back and my cholesterol has gone back up with it.

So here I go again with the fiber.

Step 1: Chipotle and I are now divorced. It has been two weeks and it was painful but we’re through. I suspect we will eventually have breakup sex a time or two but effectively that relationship is over.

Step 2: Fiber and water. The dietary changes are not hard for me, particularly now that I’m cooking at home all the time. A few simple changes to the shopping list and a resolve to eat a lot of apples. Water was one of the changes I made back in the day and actually stuck with. And I quit drinking soda altogether and never looked back. So there’s something.

Step 3: My doctor actually wants me to be accountable. I know, right. So I have to keep a food and exercise journal and do daily weigh-ins. I’ve also got to check in with the nurse every month for “review.”

Step 4: Exercise. This one is going to be a lot harder for me to deal with right now beyond the resolve to take the stairs instead of the elevator, park farther away and walk, etc. But I’ll figure it out. If anyone knows a good private training facility in the c-bus area, let me know.

The plan is 23lbs to start. Here I go.

One distinct advantage I have right now at work is the recent departure of my primary social network. BaconJ is gone, Jeff is gone, and Tommy has moved to a different building. Suddenly, packing my lunch is a lot easier and it helps me stay firm to my resolve to not have friends at work anymore. :)

You laugh but for the time being I’m determined to keep work at work. I loved what the four of us had but letting go of them in my work life was nearly as difficult as letting go of them from my personal life. It’s like when a pet dies and you swear you’ll never get another one. At least not for a while.

So I’m packing. Packing fiber. That’s my story.

Yawn.

  4. If you need any help in the exercise department, remember that my sister is a pilates trainer…but you would have to drive up north. Oh! and Amy Marzluff is doing personal training (she’s back in C-Bus) and probably doing it closer around to where you are. I am in process of getting her contact info and will pass on to you if you are interested.

  5. Try the shaker fiber in the green bottle. You can’t taste it and it doesn’t change the taste or texture of your food and it’s a real easy way yo get your fiber. I prefer the shaker fiber in the green bottle, the blue bottle is dangerous.

  6. fitday.com is kind of clunky to use (well at least the free version is), but an easy way to see where you are during the day calorie/nutrients/exercise-wise.

I was using it pretty regularly, then my b-day month came and everything got shot to hell.

  8. Packing lunch rocks. Not only good for the waistline but ALSO the wallet. Sure its a bit lonely and tends too encourage work-n-eat habits, but who cares? Of course this is coming from a person who has orange sausages and mashed turnips as her primary “dining out” option at work!
