Bye bye Blizzard

The snow, which was really pretty wonderful on Saturday, is now melting away. The main roads are almost clear apart from the big heaping mounds of sludge off to the sides, and I’m not sure yet but I think I may actually be able to get the garbage can out to the side of the road tonight without additional shoveling. I don’t even want to know how many gallons of water 20 inches of snow across the metropolitan area translates to. The water table must be off the charts. So yeah, now we worry about flooding.

Other than that, there’s not a whole lot going on so I’ll update the reading, watching, listening stuff:

Reading:
The Hyperion Series by Dan Simmons: Nearly finished with the last book in this epic series. We’re getting deep in the theological weeds in this final installment so it’s taking me a while to get through it. I think the gist though is that God is love, love is part of the fabric of everything and is therefore the thing that binds the entire universe together, and the (big c) Church has got it all wrong and is therefore scary. Sounds about right.

Watching:
Project Runway is over but that just means it’s time for a new season of TOP CHEF!
The Wire just ended and I thoroughly enjoyed the finale, though I get the impression that lots of folks were dissatisfied. I’ve probably said this before but that series? That was some of the best writing on a television show I have ever watched.
The L Word: This show is a complete train wreck and I have no idea why I’m still watching except that I think it’s compulsory if you’re a lesbian.
Note: Once that awful mess is over I am calling and canceling the premium channels unless they offer me a sweet deal to keep them. I’m tired of paying so much for television. If a new series starts we’ll join the ranks of the rent it on dvd crowd.
American Idol: Yeah, I know. I can’t help it.
Oprah’s Big Give: Two episodes down and it’s still entertaining.
Lost: I’m hanging in there by the skin of my teeth. Because really, I’m just about over it.
Survivor: This is some of the most surprising and cut-throat game playing they’ve ever had.
Stupid Degrassi: Will Darci get the help she needs? How will Spinner survive with just one ball? Can Marco EVER get a boyfriend? The Canadian teen-angst drama that kicks off the weekend with camp and cheese.

And any number of other random shows we end up watching in between all of that crap but don’t tape. My God we watch too much television.

Listening:
I went old school Sarah Harmer this week for some reason. I think I needed an antidote to all the people around me who keep singing that Low song by Flo Rida. Blah.

Doing:
A lot of shoveling
Site Maps
Training sessions
Practice Group Toolkits
Planning the San Francisco trip

We leave in two weeks for our first vacation together in fabulous San Francisco. I say fabulous but I have no idea because I’ve never set foot in California. I’ve been to Boise. Not the same. Our Skybus flight leaves at Oh Dark Thirty and our roster of stuff to do and see is already amazing. I don’t think I’ve ever done such a complex itinerary for a trip before but I am determined to see as much as I can in four days. It’s going to be a blast!

And that’s the news from the snow shrouded Midwest.

  3. Ohio weather is so weird! My sis said it was 55 a couple days after the blizz. No wonder I was so much more sick in Ohio than here - moderate weather is good for the soul!

You’re gonna fall in love with SF! Will be a tad cold this time of year but still fun!
