Speaking in Code
One of the nice things about my job is working with people who share my interest in science fiction and fantasy. In other words, I work with geeks. We had a group Tuesday night to watch the finale of Buffy and last week a handful of us went to see The Matrix Reloaded on opening night. We did the same for Lord of the Rings. In fact, LOTR and Buffy are really the two subjects that have brought our little geek family together here at work. So we came up with a code for use in e-mail back and forth. Everyone in the office now has an Orc name. I sent this message just the other day:
“I just asked. He said it’s all in limbo because Pushgob and Bâzlakh the Devastator are both out of town.”
The trick is not to call your boss Pushgob to his face. One of us slipped and actually called her boss Frodo. Not an Orc name of course, but still. So at the risk of exposing the code I’m going to post this link as a service for those who might find it useful in a corporate setting. Or just plain fun.
The Barrow Downs Name Generator.
I’m Gutrot the Drooler, in case you were wondering.
